Tamagorō Katayude (固（かた）茹（ゆで） 玉（たま）吾郎（ごろう）, Katayude Tamagorō; Viz "Tamagoro Katayude") is a Human-type Earthling, and the chief of Government Sea Police, who was sent to have Ōmori vacate the island so it can be turned into a resort.

Background

Katayude makes his first appearance when he arrives on Tokunoshin's Island and orders Tokunoshin Ōmori to immediately vacate it. He claims the island belongs to the Capital and that the government intends to build a resort on the island. Ignoring protests from Ōmori, Katayude gives the elderly man two weeks to vacate the island and then leaves. As his boat travels back to the mainland, Katayude spots Jaco on the island with his telescope. Later, the boat capsizes due to Jaco having thrown a rock at it, forcing Katayude and his team to travel to the mainland in a life raft.

Trivia

• Katayude's name means "hard-boiled", a type of egg preparation. It also refers to a genre of detective fiction, although Katayude himself does not display any of the traits typical of such characters.
