Gokū Day (悟空の日, Gokū no Hi) is a Japanese holiday celebrated on May 9th. It was announced on May 9, 2015. Masako Nozawa, the Japanese voice actor of Gokū, attended a screening of Dragon Ball Z: Revival of "F" in Shinjuku to mark the event.[1]

Trivia

  • The day was chosen because the number 5 is pronounced go (五) and the number 9 is pronounced kyū (九), or lazily, , in the Japanese language.[2]
  • Coincidentally (and ironically), Gokū Day shares a date with a significant holiday within the Dragon Ball franchise: Piccolo Day. Gokū would defeat his arch-rival on this day as well.
