Dragon Ball Kai (ドラゴンボール かい, Doragon Bōru Kai; Literally meaning "Dragon Ball Revised"),[1] also known as sometimes known as Dragon Ball Z Kai in English release, is a revised anime adaptation of the Dragon Ball manga series, released as part of the 20th anniversary celebrations for the series. The series featured remastered footage, from the original Dragon Ball Z anime, for HDTV. The series also featured revised opening and ending themes, new music, and a rerecording of the dialogue.[2] The anime can be watched on Hulu, Prime Video, and Vudu.

Overview[]

Dragon Ball Kai is set apart from its predecessor in that it removed the original ("filler") content, as well as any damaged frames, from the original footage. This was done in order to produce a more faithful adaptation of the original manga by Akira Toriyama. As a result, there were far less episodes than the original anime adaptation, resulting in a fast-paced story.[3]
